Ed Hero Award Winners, PPPS,  Isa Herrera, PPPS superinterintendent Davison, and MS TEacher Samantha Christenson

Paw Paw Public Schools is pleased to announce this year's winners of the Educational Hero Awards: Middle School Language Arts Teacher Samantha Christenson and Early Elementary Behavior Paraprofessional/Multilingual Learner Interpreter Isamar “Isa” Herrera.

The Educational Hero Awards Banquet was held last night at the Van Buren Intermediate School District, where Christenson and Herrera were both recognized and presented with their awards. PPPS Superintendent Jeremy Davison, PPPS Board Member Mary Beth Sons, and Early Elementary Principal Leah Barnes were also in attendance as representatives of Paw Paw Public Schools.

Education Heros from the other Van Buren County school districts were also recognized.

Colleague and Special Education Teacher Aaron Beery nominated Christenson by stating, “Samantha Christenson is an outstanding educator at Paw Paw Middle School. Known for building strong relationships with students, she inspires confidence and high expectations. Her exceptional classroom management balances compassion with accountability. A true Master Teacher, Sam, is deeply respected by colleagues and adored by students.”

Early Elementary Principal Leah Barnes nominated Isamar Herrera, and her nomination letter stated, “Isamar “Isa” Herrera serves as both a Behavior Paraprofessional and Multilingual Learner Interpreter. She builds meaningful relationships with students, provides consistent behavioral support, and helps students feel safe and capable. Isa also bridges communication with families, fostering trust and partnership. Her compassion, professionalism, and dedication make her an invaluable member of the Paw Paw Pack.”
