Dear Early Elementary Families: This is Mrs. Remillard with an update on where we are with our Continuity of Learning plan for the Elementary Campus. Our grade level teams have been working on finalizing content that will be posted and available beginning on Monday, April 20th. Work will look a little different this time around as we follow the State of Michigan Executive Order that suspended face-to-face learning. We need your help to communicate to your children that school is not over. They have the same teacher, but a new permanent classroom for the rest of the school year and the same high expectations as always for their best effort on everything that is delivered to them. Work will be distributed weekly by grade level through our website, district app, social media, Schoolmessenger email, and student email. For families that do not have a device, we will have chromebooks available for students in kindergarten through 5th grade to sign out on Monday, April 20th from 11am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm at the Later Elementary front entrance. A parent must be present to sign for the device. We are asking for families to understand that we looking to meet a 2:1 ratio of students to devices at home. For families that do not have internet access, we have made a change to reduce the amount of person to person contact that was necessary to create printed packets. Beginning Monday, we will have flash drives available for those families with no internet access. You will need a desktop, laptop, or chromebook to access the content. Again, flash drives are for families with no internet access. The flash drive will have content loaded onto it for all grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Families with flash drives will be able to exchange their flash drive every Monday for new content. Teachers will be conducting virtual class meetings where they will be holding discussions and checking for understanding on essential skills. I am asking for your help to allow and encourage your child to participate in these virtual meetings as much as possible. Teachers will follow up with personal phone calls to complete checks for understanding with students over the phone that were unable to attend virtual class events. We are excited to begin Phase II of our Learning Plan and we appreciate your patience, understanding, and support to help us make this plan work. Please watch for additional communication from your child’s teacher over the next several days. Do not hesitate to contact our office at 269-415-5305 if you have questions or if you need to make arrangements for an alternate time to pick up a device or flash drive. Thanks again for all of your support and encouragement to our staff during this experience. We are, as always, committed to providing the best for your child in a way that protects the safety and health of everyone. Have a great day! Melissa
