At the end of each regular Board of Education meeting, board members take a moment to share some of the great things they see in the district while serving on the Board.
Here are this month's points of Pride & Progress:
“One thing that really stuck with me is that I was skeptical about whether the middle school could serve as our “life raft” over the summer, especially with projects and construction going on at the high school and the need to shift so many activities. From summer meal pickup to Band Camp, athletics, countless group meetings, and everything in between, it all worked out great. The number of kids going in and out of the middle school all summer long was phenomenal, and it turned out even better than I thought it would. Kudos to the staff for getting everything ready and keeping it running smoothly throughout the summer!” Brent McNitt
“I’m super excited for the school year! We have a lot of great things going on. At the elementary levels, we don’t have any new administrative transitions, but we still have some teachers making positive shifts. With the changes in administration at the high school and middle school, this is an exciting opportunity for Tracy Derhammer and Troy Schultz, and I can’t wait to meet Nic Losiewski at the middle school. I think we’re seeing a lot of different faces, perspectives, ideas, and input at all levels, which is going to make our district better. I love that Jerry McDaniel is still involved and participating in the district - thank you for that! I also want to thank Ben Bowater and his team of experts for their presentation. This is exactly the kind of innovation that will make us a destination district.” Ray Martin
“I hope everyone has a successful school year! Each new school year gives us another opportunity for a fresh start.” Tom Imus
“I attended Open House and had the opportunity to talk with others about today’s professional development (PD). Seeing our high school teachers so energized is remarkable. I heard many positive comments from secondary teachers about today’s PD, which is especially encouraging given that this group can sometimes be harder to impress. To have this level of energy districtwide is great to see! I was happy to hear that today was successful Y5-12.” Lindsay Clark
“I also attended Open House. I went into all the classrooms and met all the teachers, and the new teachers are all so impressive. I saw the principals interacting with families and staff, which was great to see! Lastly, I’d like to give a shout-out to Jeremy Davison. He did a great job today kicking off the school year, and the keynote speaker was phenomenal!” Mary Beth Sons
“I attended the M.A.S.B. Summer Institute and participated in a workshop centered around the bestselling book “Good to Great.” It was a great reminder of two things. First, it made me think of the shifts in our staff this summer and the importance of having the right people on the bus and in the right seats. I’m proud of how our district recognizes great people and gives them new opportunities to grow. Second, the presenter shared how starting a PLC years ago has had a positive impact on his district’s scores. It made me think of our team and how proud I am that they attended the PLC Institute. I’m proud they took the opportunity seriously and are committed to bringing that learning back to our district.” Maria Bowater
