Paw Paw, MI – Paw Paw Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Troy Schultz as the next assistant principal of Paw Paw High School. The Board of Education approved the appointment at its regular July meeting. Schultz succeeds Tracy Derhammer, who served as the assistant principal for the past seven years.
With 25 years in education and the past 23 years with PPPS, Schultz has spent the last four years as assistant principal of Paw Middle School. He is known for a team-focused leadership style that brings students, staff, and families together. Prior to serving as assistant principal, Schultz taught health and physical education at Paw Paw High School, where he also served as teachers union president, student council advisor, class advisor, and assistant coach for varsity football and track. Before that, Schultz served as the in-school suspension supervisor, varsity football coach, and varsity baseball coach at Parchment Public Schools.
Mr. Schultz earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a health minor from Western Michigan University, as well as a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.
In his own words, Mr. Schultz shared what he is most excited about in his new role. “I’m excited to continue working with the students, helping them develop their passions and seeing them become successful. I’m also excited about the new adventures that await at the high school level. It’s a time of growth with the new facilities and modern upgrades, and I’m excited to work with a new staff to help guide that building toward becoming one of the best in the state and a model for others to follow.”
When asked what has prepared Schultz for this position, Paw Paw High School Principal Tammy Southworth said, “Mr. Schultz brings skills that will make him successful in this position. He is organized and efficient. He cares not only about our students, but about our staff and community as well. He is compassionate and is also willing to have tough conversations when they need to be had.”
