Paw Paw, MI – Paw Paw Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Tracy Derhammer as the next principal of Paw Paw Middle School. The Board of Education approved the appointment at its regular June meeting. Derhammer succeeds Jerry McDaniel, who has served as principal since 2011. During his 15 years of leadership, McDaniel has made a lasting impact on the school, and Paw Paw Public Schools extends its sincere appreciation for his dedicated service and many contributions.
With 20 years of service to PPPS, including the past seven years as assistant principal of Paw Paw High School, Derhammer brings a deep connection to our district and a strong commitment to the success of every student. In addition to serving as assistant principal, she spent one year in Community Education, 10 years teaching English, and two years as the high school student success coach. Prior to joining PPPS, Derhammer coached high school sideline and competitive cheer for 12 years and coached at Western Michigan University for five years.
Mrs. Derhammer earned bachelor’s degrees in sociology and secondary education, with an English major and communications minor, as well as a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, all from Western Michigan University.
When asked what has positioned her for this role, Mrs. Derhammer said, “I really feel that all my experiences have helped shape me as a leader. Coaching, teaching, and serving as an administrator have really given me a well-rounded experience in nearly every aspect of a school. In addition to my teaching duties, I was able to serve as the school improvement chair and the district ELA chair, which gave me a great deal of insight into building systems and setting goals that not only challenge our students but also provide them with the support they need to be successful.”
"Tracy’s knowledge of our district, her strong relationships with students, staff, and families, and her proven leadership experience make her an outstanding choice to serve as our next principal at Paw Paw Middle School,” said Superintendent Jeremy Davison. “Throughout her 20 years with PPPS, she has been a champion for our students, our culture, and the core values that define our district.”
Mrs. Derhammer is looking forward to joining the outstanding staff at Paw Paw Middle School and is eager to learn from them. With a strong focus on partnering with families, she is excited to support students and ensure they leave middle school prepared to take advantage of all the amazing opportunities available at Paw Paw High School.
