What began three years ago with the donation of book vending machines through Paw Paw High School Alumnus Molly McNitt’s Girl Scout Gold Award project has continued to grow into a legacy of literacy and kindness for Paw Paw elementary students. The project was made possible through the support of community partners including the Paw Paw Lions Club and 100+ Women Who Care of Van Buren County, whose generosity helped bring the book vending machines to life.

Now, that legacy has expanded once again through another generous gift to students by Molly’s father, 50 copies of a new children’s book, “Molly’s First Day at Her New School.” Released in November 2025, the story follows Molly, a shy new student who discovers friendship, kindness, and belonging at Paw Paw Elementary School.

The story highlights the importance of compassion, inclusion and community while encouraging young readers to reach out and help others feel welcome. Together, the book vending machines and McNitt’s new book continue to promote literacy and positive connections for students throughout the district.
