Paw Paw, MI – Sophia Miller, a talented art student in her junior year at Paw Paw High School, recently learned that her artwork would be included in a prestigious exhibition at the Kalamazoo Institute of the Arts. A 40-year tradition at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the High School Area Show features artwork from high school students in a nine-county area.
Sophia is quickly earning a reputation as an award-winning artist! Last fall, she took first-place winner in the Van Buren Courts “Blind Justice” Art Contest. When asked about her art teacher’s influence, Sophia said, “She has definitely played a role as a mentor, and she has also offered a great amount of support. I would not have known about or entered these contests if she had not shared the information in the first place.”
In addition to having their artwork included in the K.I.A. exhibition from April 22 to May 21, 2023, participation makes student artists eligible to win scholarships for summer programs and college scholarships. In 2022, the High School Area Show awarded $700,000 in student support.
PPHS Art Teacher Sarah Bentley had this to say about her student, “Sophia has always shown a great amount of talent and hard work, and I’m excited to see what else she does in her senior year!”
