PAYING FOR MEALS

  • Paying for meals at school

For your convenience, and to eliminate the need for students to carry cash, we offer a meal debit system. Just like a debit card, it only works when you have money in your account. Each student is assigned an account number which is activated when a deposit is received. Deposits can be sent to school at any time. There is no need to indicate which days your child will be eating.

Each student receives a bar-coded meal card, which includes their picture, to use at school.

Middle and High School students carry their ID card with them. Please encourage your student to use the card in the cafeteria to keep the meal service line moving quickly.

Please remind your student to avoid chewing, folding or otherwise destroying their card.

Students receiving meal benefits are also issued accounts and meal cards to protect their identities in the meal service line.

Students receiving meal benefits may also keep a balance on account for a la cart purchases. You must first call the Food Service Director and notify them that the a la cart purchases are OK.

Lunch account balances transfer with a student as they move to another Paw Paw School and also transfer at the end of the year. For students transferring out of the district, please send a written request for a refund.

For your student's safety, we do not recommend sending cash to school.

Meal deposits may be sent to school with your child in an envelope. Please label the envelope to Food Service, including your student's name, teacher's name, and building. At the Middle and High School, checks can be accepted at the cash register. If you prefer, your deposit can be mailed to Paw Paw Public School -Food Service, 30609 Red Arrow Hwy., Paw Paw MI 49079.

Checks are made payable to Paw Paw Public Schools and money orders are accepted. Please label the check or money order with the student's name, and building on the memo line. We do not take credit cards or debit cards.

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: IF YOUR STUDENT(S) RECEIVED FREE OR REDUCED PRICED MEALS IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT LAST YEAR, YOU MUST RE-APPLY PRIOR TO OCTOBER 15th 2019 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONTINUED BENEFITS FOR THE COMING YEAR. PLEASE RETURN YOUR NEW APPLICATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID AN INTERRUPTION IN SERVICE FOR YOUR CHILD.

We will continuously be updating our new Meal Magic program to better serve our Parents, Students and Staff. If you ever have questions or concerns about your students account, please feel free to contact us at 269-415-5650.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does it take to process a deposit?

Please allow one day for deposits to be credited to accounts.

How will I know when the account is getting low on funds?

At the elementary schools, when an account reaches a negative balance of -$1.00 or more, a balance reminder slip will be sent home (on Monday) with your student. Please look in your child's folder or school bag for the letter. At the Middle and High School, our cashiers will make every effort to alert students when there account balances are getting low. Students may also check their balances as they make their purchases at the register.

Can I call my student's school to get account balance information?

The Food Service Staff will be happy to assist you. Please contact the individual school cafeteria for information on account balances. Or you may call the Food Service Director at 269-415-5650. As our priority is student service, the staff may not be able to take your call during breakfast or lunch serving times. Please leave a voice mail and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Please leave your name, student's name, school, and phone number to be reached at so that we can take care of you.

If an account balance is $0.00 or less, will the student be provided a meal?

Yes, no child will go hungry. We ask that you keep your child's account in the positive, but we understand things happen. Your child will receive a qualified meal even if they are in the negative, and their account will be charged as such for meals until it is brought into the positive. Please call the food service director at 269-415-5650 for any questions or concerns. Failure to call the director and make arrangements may disqualify your child from receiving meals in the future.

Does everyone know what meal benefit status my child has?

None of our meal benefit students are identified in the meal service line. We believe in the strict privacy of all our students.
