Here is an update on our Continuity of Learning plan as we follow the State of Michigan Executive Order that suspended face-to-face learning for the remainder of this year.

Parents, we need your help to communicate to your children that school is not over.  They have the same teachers, but will be working from home for the rest of the school year.

This week, your child should receive a call from one of our teachers. If that hasn’t happened yet, it will in the next couple of days. The purpose of this call is to check in on each of our kids and make sure they have everything they need. Please have your student take the call, and call back if necessary.

Our focus for the remainder of the school year will be on the essential standards for each class. They are designing learning and assessment opportunities for students to show their proficiency on each standard. Students should complete all assignments, as this is how they will show proficiency and earn credit for the class. Teachers at the high school level are also designing opportunities for students to go above and beyond the essentials and earn a letter grade of an “A” in the class.

Our teachers have been working on finalizing content that will be posted and available through email and Google Classroom beginning on Monday, April 20th.

For any students that do not have a device, we will have chromebooks available for students to sign out beginning on Monday from 11:00 to 1:00 and from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the high school.  A parent must be present to sign for the device. Please contact Mrs Southworth or Mrs Lee to make this arrangement.

For families that do not have internet access, we will have flash drives available that will be pre-loaded with class materials.  Students will be able to access the material in the flash drive using their chromebook, without connecting to the internet. Families with flash drives will then exchange their flash drive each Monday to turn in assignments and get new content. Contact the school if you need this option.

Teachers will be conducting virtual class meetings using Google Meet where they will be holding discussions and checking for understanding on essential skills.  Google Meet sessions can be joined using chromebooks, on a smart phone using the Google Meet app, or for an option that does not need wifi, by calling in to the session. I am asking for your help to allow and encourage your child to participate in these virtual meetings as much as possible.

At the end of the semester, for each course, students will receive either

Credit if they have met all the standards, or an A if they have successfully met the criteria for that grade.  Students who have not yet shown proficiency will have No Credit until they do so.

We are excited to begin this phase of our learning plan and we need your patience, understanding, and support to make this plan work.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office at 269-415-5600 if you have questions or if

you need to make arrangements to pick up a device or flash drive.

Thanks again for all of your support and encouragement to our staff during this experience.  As always, we are committed to partnering with you to provide the best learning experience possible.
