One of the supplemental programs that students in our school may participate in is the Accelerated Reader program, also call AR. It is a program in which students read books and then take tests on the computer about the book to test their comprehension. Students who answer at least 60% of the questions right can accumulate points. We have tests available on our computers for many of the books in our library.
Although students cannot take AR tests at home, they can read books at home and take the tests at school.
As students accumulate points they are awarded with many special rewards.
We hope to instill a love of reading in all our students. Reading for points can be highly motivating for some children. The most important aspect of AR is simply the fact that children are reading and understanding what they’ve read.
