• Welcome to the Curriculum Corner!

    Paw Paw Public School’s current curriculum is based on Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs) and High School Content Expectations (HSCEs) from the state of Michigan. Curriculum committees in English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Languages and Technology meet several times throughout the school year to share information between grade levels, review research and best practice, and study recent student testing achievement. Based on this work, curriculum may be revised and updated, professional development recommended, and resources reviewed and added. The committee chairs of these committees, School Improvement chairs and administrators from each building make up the District Curriculum Council which reviews, monitors and communicates the curricular work and school improvement efforts of the district.

    With Michigan’s adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), we have created a timeline to align our English Language Arts and Math curriculums with the new state standards.

    First State Assessment of Common Core State Standards

    District Curriculum initiatives for the 2010-11 school year included the following:

    • Reviewed process for collecting, communicating, and archiving common assessments and data.
    • Purchased new resources for Genetics class.
    • Purchased new resources for Microbiology class.
    • Purchased grade 7 Science Kits from SEPUP (Science Educators for Public Understanding) following a year-long pilot.
    • Completed purchase of Battle Creek Science Kits, K-5.
    World Languages
    • Approved adding Spanish as a core academic subject in grade 8, with implementation beginning Fall 2011.
    • Approved new resources for Spanish I and Spanish II.
    English Language Arts
    • Began realigning recommended readings and novels to appropriate grade based on reading level, interest and rigor.
    • Renamed English 9, 10, 11, and 12 classes to reflect course content.
    • Implemented Scott-Foresman’s Reading Street at the Later Elementary building, 3-5.
    Social Studies
    • Purchased new U.S. History books for grade 9.
    • Approved and purchased new resources for Psychology class.
    • Added interactive whiteboards in Social Studies classrooms at the Middle School.
