Paw Paw High School Goes to College!

College Application Week goes live at Paw Paw High School October 26-October 30, 2015.

Research supports the idea if students apply to two or more colleges they are 40 percent more likely to enroll in a college the following fall.  College Application Week is a nationwide initiative designed to help students apply to college.  Several colleges and universities will waive their application fees next week as part of this program. College Application Week began on a small scale in 2005, and has quickly spread to all 50 states. This is the 5th year that the state of Michigan has recognized the initiative, and the 1st year that PPHS is participating.

During the week of October 26-October 30, our hallways and classrooms will be alive with college-themed activities to spread college awareness to our entire student body. Students in grades 9-12 will participate in college spirit wear days, play college trivia games, hear from their teachers and staff about their college experiences, and enjoy famous college fight songs. While the entire student body is enjoying a spirit-filled week of college awareness activities, the real work will take place inside our computer labs where members of our senior class will be applying to two-year and four-year colleges, as well as technical and trade programs.

At Paw Paw High School, we are committed to helping students prepare for education beyond high school and providing the opportunity to apply to college for ALL students.  As a lead up to College Application Week, seniors listened to their counselors provide tips and resources in getting prepared for the big week. After taking an interest survey to help them select the colleges to which they will apply, students filled out an application checklist.  This checklist helped them to gather all necessary information required on an application. Students learned about all the parts required to make an application complete, and now, our seniors are ready to make college a reality by taking the first step:  Applying.

The computer labs at PPHS will be filled with determined and focused seniors getting a jump-start on their future with the help of teachers, staff, and volunteers all along the way.  Principal Mike Dahlinger is excited about this initiative and exclaims, “The college or post-secondary culture we have established at Paw Paw High School just continues to grow.  Our students see the importance of continuing their education beyond a high school diploma – this initiative is just another step where we can help our students achieve their goals. ”
