This is my 9th year as a teacher at Paw Paw High School. This year I will teach only Geometry but have taught AP Calculus, Algebra and an after school math lab. Before deciding to teach, I attended Western Michigan University and graduated in 1994 with a degree in Paper Science and Engineering. I worked in the local paper industry until 2002 and went back to W.M.U. and received my teaching certification in 2004 and my masters in Educational Leadership in the Spring of 2008.
Other leadership roles I have within the district are serving as the Energy Manager for the Paw Paw Public School District for the past 7 years, the Mathematics k-12 Department Chair, member of the District's Curriculum Comittee, HS SADD Advisor, and a member of the HS School Improvement Comittee. This year I am teaching Adult Education at Michigan Avenue Academy on Wednesday nights and is by far one of the best experiences in my educational career.
My goal as a teacher of mathematics is to empower kids to challenge themselves while providing them a safe environment to take risks in class. Encouraging students to become self-motivated in their thinking and communicating will be a daily focus as a class and individually. I will strive to show students through real examples and world applications that math is the key to their future after high school - whether it be college, trade school or the work force.
My family consists of my husband Chris, daughters Stoney (16), Samantha (3), a white German Shephard named Jack, cat Ace and many fish.
My philosophy in mathematics and in life is:
"Never, Never, Never, Give Up" ~ Winston Churchill
